The must-haves

Before price, confirm the fundamentals:

  • Current ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation, verified in the accreditation body’s directory
  • A scope that covers your specific measurements and ranges
  • Certificates with as-found/as-left data, uncertainty, and a stated decision rule
  • CMC small enough to give an adequate TUR against your tolerances
  • A documented handling of out-of-tolerance results

The differentiators

Once the must-haves are met, service is what you live with day to day: realistic turnaround (and expedite options), whether you can talk to an actual technician, logistics (pickup routes or mail-in), and whether the lab covers enough disciplines to consolidate your equipment with one accredited supplier. A smaller independent lab often wins here on responsiveness and direct access.
