Oscilloscope Calibration
An oscilloscope measures both amplitude and time, so its calibration has to prove accuracy in two dimensions — plus that it actually has the bandwidth on the label.

The three pillars of a scope calibration
Calibration verifies vertical (amplitude) accuracy across gain settings, timebase (horizontal) accuracy, and bandwidth — confirming the scope responds correctly up to its rated frequency. A calibrated oscilloscope calibrator (or equivalent standards) generates precise amplitudes, timing, and fast edges to exercise each.
Why bandwidth is easy to overlook
A scope can be dead-on for DC amplitude yet fail its bandwidth spec, quietly rolling off fast signals. For measurements that depend on rise time or high-frequency content, the bandwidth check is essential — make sure it is included rather than assumed. As always, the certificate should report data and uncertainty, not just a verdict.
