Torque screwdrivers operate at the low end of the torque scale, where electronics assembly and medical-device manufacturing demand tight, repeatable control. Their calibration is scaled to match.

Low-torque, high-stakes
Torque screwdrivers are calibrated against a reference torque system capable of resolving small torques accurately, at multiple points across the tool’s range and in the direction of use. Because the torques are small, the reference system and technique must be correspondingly fine — a transducer suited to full-scale wrenches is not appropriate for a delicate screwdriver.
Where it matters
These tools set fastener torque in electronics, medical devices, and precision assemblies where over- or under-torquing damages components or compromises function. As-found/as-left data with uncertainty documents that the tool was — and remains — within tolerance, which is exactly what a controlled assembly process requires.

Common questions
Are torque screwdrivers calibrated differently from wrenches?
The principle is the same, but the reference system is scaled to the small torques involved so it can resolve them accurately. The right equipment for the tool’s range is essential.
