Thread, Ring, and Plug Gauge Calibration
Go/no-go gauges feel simple — the part fits or it does not. But the gauge itself wears, and a worn gauge passes bad parts. Calibration is what keeps that from happening.

Measuring the gauges that measure parts
Thread gauges (plug and ring), and plain plug and ring gauges, are calibrated by measuring their critical dimensions — pitch diameter, major/minor diameters, and form for threads — against traceable standards, and comparing to the gauge’s class tolerance. Even though they are used as attribute (go/no-go) gauges, verifying them requires real dimensional measurement.
Wear and retirement
Because these gauges physically engage parts, they wear — especially "go" members in high-volume use. Calibration tracks that wear so a gauge is retired before it drifts out of class and starts accepting nonconforming parts. As-found data is what makes an out-of-tolerance gauge’s impact assessable.

Common questions
Why calibrate a go/no-go gauge if it is just pass/fail?
Because the gauge wears. A worn "go" or "no-go" member changes the effective accept/reject boundary and can pass bad parts. Calibration measures the gauge so you retire it before that happens.
