Calibration Services in Brea
Brea is the closest city to our laboratory. Four miles up Kraemer Boulevard, under ten minutes door to door — which makes American Gage, in the most literal sense available, Brea local calibration lab. That proximity changes what is practical: same-morning drop-off, genuinely fast expedited work, and on-site visits that do not require a half-day of travel.

Four miles up Kraemer Boulevard
Distance is usually an abstraction in calibration — everyone claims coverage, and the instrument goes in a van to somewhere unspecified. From Brea it is concrete. An instrument that leaves your building at 8 AM is on a bench in Placentia before 9, and a finished certificate can be back the same route it left on.
Brea sits on our free Monday and Wednesday Orange County route, but the route is almost beside the point at this range. Drop-off at 1131 S Richfield Rd runs Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, and it is a shorter trip than most Brea employees commute.
The practical benefit shows up on expedited work. When a 24-hour turnaround is genuinely 24 hours of calibration rather than 24 hours minus two days of transit, the premium buys something real.
An industrial mix built on oil, then rebuilt on everything else
Brea grew up on the Union Oil fields, and traces of that history remain in the pressure and flow instrumentation still used around energy services here. What was built on top of it is more varied: corporate and regional headquarters, medical device operations, light manufacturing and fabrication along the Imperial Highway and Lambert corridors, and the machine shops that support all of them.
That spread means the instrument list from Brea is unusually wide for a city of its size — pressure gauges and transmitters from energy and process work, torque wrenches from assembly and fleet maintenance, calipers and micrometers from shops, multimeters from electrical maintenance, and balances from labs and shipping.
Nine disciplines, so nobody has to split the account
Companies with a mixed instrument population usually end up with two or three calibration suppliers, and the recall calendar is where that arrangement fails — no single vendor sees the whole list, so nothing reconciles.
We calibrate dimensional, electrical and RF, temperature and humidity from −196 to 1000 °C, pressure from −14.7 to 10,000 psi, mass, pipettes to ISO 8655, force and torque, gas flow, and vibration — all in-house, in discipline-specific environmentally controlled rooms. One account holds the whole schedule.
We also repair dimensional instruments with parts stocked for Mitutoyo, Starrett, Interapid, and SPI, lap small granite surface plates to ±0.0001 in, and repair hardness testers. Repair estimates never exceed 50% of the cost of new.
Regulated work, and the certificate that supports it
Brea medical device and life science operations work under ISO 13485 and FDA 21 CFR; suppliers into aerospace face AS9100. Both regimes want the same thing from a calibration record: identified equipment, documented traceability, stated uncertainty, and evidence of condition at receipt.
Our certificates carry as-found and as-left readings, measurement uncertainty, NIST traceability, and the ANSI/NCSL Z540.3 decision rule with TUR, issued under A2LA ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation certificate 4296.01. Supplier-qualification packets — accreditation certificate, current scope, quality manual references — are available on request.
A lab that answers the phone
American Gage has operated in Orange County since 1968 and under current ownership since 1998, in an 8,000 sq ft facility with more than a million calibrations behind it. The reason Brea companies stay is smaller than any of that: when you call, someone who knows your account picks up, and if a reading came back strange they can tell you why.
Standard turnaround is 7–10 business days. For equipment that should not leave your building, on-site calibration is straightforward at four miles — book about two weeks ahead.

Brea calibration FAQs
How close is American Gage to Brea?
About four miles — under ten minutes up Kraemer Boulevard to 1131 S Richfield Rd, Placentia. We are the closest A2LA-accredited calibration laboratory to Brea.
Is expedited calibration actually faster for Brea companies?
Yes, meaningfully. Expedited 24, 48, and 72-hour service is available for a fee, and at four miles almost none of that window is lost to transit at either end.
Do we need to use the pickup route?
No. Brea is on the free Monday and Wednesday Orange County route, but drop-off is often quicker. The lab accepts drop-offs Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
Can you handle both our lab instruments and our shop tools?
Yes — that is the main reason mixed-equipment companies consolidate with us. All nine disciplines run in-house, so one account and one recall schedule covers balances, pipettes, gauges, torque tools, and electrical test equipment.
What accreditation do your certificates carry?
ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited by A2LA, certificate 4296.01, with ANSI/NCSL Z540-1 and Z540.3 compliance and NIST traceability. The current scope is downloadable from our [accreditations page](/accreditations).
