Calibration Services in Laguna Hills

Laguna Hills is not a manufacturing town and we are not going to pretend otherwise. It is a 6.5-square-mile city of about 31,000 whose working economy is healthcare — MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center and the unusually dense ring of oncology, surgery, dental and clinical-lab practices around it — plus professional services on El Toro Road and a small flex-industrial inventory. That happens to describe some of the most calibration-regulated work we do.

About half an hour down the I-5, and the one freeway we will not claim

The practical run is SR-91 east to SR-55 south to the I-5, off at El Toro Road — or the 241 toll road to Oso Parkway when the 55 is ugly. Call it 28 miles and half an hour off-peak, closer to an hour at the wrong time of day. The I-5 is the city’s spine, running along its eastern border with interchanges at Oso Parkway, La Paz Road, Alicia Parkway, El Toro Road and Lake Forest Drive. El Toro Road itself, County Route S18, is the primary commercial corridor; Moulton Parkway runs east-west and Alicia Parkway north-south.

The SR-73 toll road does not serve Laguna Hills. It runs Costa Mesa through Newport Beach, Irvine, Laguna Beach, Aliso Viejo and Laguna Niguel to the I-5 at San Juan Capistrano, touching the Laguna Hills line as a boundary marker and nothing more. The honest and still-useful version: the 73 is a few minutes away via El Toro Road or Oso Parkway. We flag it because mislabeling a freeway is exactly the error that tells a local reader the page was written from a template.

Something genuinely current, if you are planning around construction: OCTA and Caltrans have an active I-5 at El Toro Road interchange improvement project covering Laguna Hills, Laguna Woods and Lake Forest. The draft environmental document came out in July 2026, public hearings ran through August and September, and the final document is expected in early 2027. Build alternatives include a hook ramp along Avenida De La Carlota and a new street into the Village at Laguna Hills. Our Monday and Wednesday route plans around it.

MemorialCare Saddleback, and the ring of practices around it

MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center on Health Center Drive is the anchor institution and the only large employer in the city — 248 licensed acute beds including 22 in intensive care, Joint Commission accredited, part of the MemorialCare system. It carried the name Saddleback Memorial Medical Center for decades, so older supplier records and directory citations still use that form.

What makes Laguna Hills interesting is the density around it. UCLA Health Laguna Hills Cancer Care runs medical oncology, hematology and breast surgical oncology on Paseo De Valencia, in the same building as Saddleback Valley Outpatient Surgery. MemorialCare operates a surgical center at Saddleback. Providence Mission Heritage Medical Group has an internal medicine, OB/GYN, behavioral health and endocrinology practice in Oakbrook Village on Avenida De La Carlota. Labcorp keeps patient service centers in the city. An oral and maxillofacial surgery cluster sits along Paseo De Valencia, and small clinical and dental labs operate out of the flex pockets on Merit Circle and Peralta Drive.

Every one of those sites runs on the same short list of instruments, and every one of them has a regulator who asks for calibration records.

The clinical instrument list, and who audits it

Air-displacement and positive-displacement pipettes, single and multichannel, verified gravimetrically with stated uncertainty — the single highest-volume clinical item we handle. Centrifuges, RPM or RCF plus timer verification. Autoclave and steam sterilizer temperature and pressure verification with thermocouple mapping and load validation. Analytical and precision balances with ASTM and OIML check weights. Sphygmomanometers, aneroid and NIBP module, and pressure manometers. Incubator, refrigerator, freezer, cryogenic storage and blanket-warmer thermometers and data loggers, including vaccine storage monitoring. Infusion-pump flow verification, patient-monitor and defibrillator analyzers. Differential-pressure gages, flow hoods and anemometers for surgical suites and pharmacy clean spaces. Timers and stopwatches, pH and conductivity meters, spectrophotometers. Radiation survey meters and dosimetry on the oncology and imaging side. And torque screwdrivers and wrenches for orthopedic and implant instrument sets, which surprises people until they look at the surgical trays.

The dental and dental-lab side has its own list: autoclave and ultrasonic cleaner verification, handpiece torque and air-pressure gages, regulator gages, porcelain and sintering furnace thermocouples with temperature uniformity, digital calipers and micrometers for crown and milled-restoration dimensional checks, CAD/CAM mill artifacts, shade colorimetry and curing-light radiometers.

The regimes that actually bite here are CLIA under 42 CFR Part 493, with its calibration and calibration-verification obligations; Joint Commission EC.02.04.01 and EC.02.04.03 on medical equipment inspection, testing and maintenance; CMS conditions of participation for the hospital and the ambulatory surgery centers; CDPH licensing and HCAI facility requirements; and, for any device work, 21 CFR Part 820 as the Quality Management System Regulation that took effect in February 2026, incorporating ISO 13485:2016 by reference. Measuring equipment traceable to national standards with documented status is a Clause 7 requirement, not a suggestion.

The flex-industrial side, proportionate to what it actually is

There is a modest industrial inventory and we will size it honestly: roughly eight industrial listings citywide at an average unit of just under 10,000 square feet, ranging from about 1,900 to 33,000. The addresses cluster on Peralta Drive, Avenida De La Carlota, Ridge Route Drive, S Pointe Drive, El Pacifico Drive and Alcalde Drive, in parks like Laguna Ridge Business Park, Saddleback Business Park on Cabot Road, Merit Circle, Commerce Center Drive and Laguna Hills Business Plaza.

What lives in those units needs ordinary, unglamorous, legally consequential calibration. Calipers, micrometers, dial and digital indicators, height gages, tape measures and steel rules. Torque wrenches, screwdrivers and testers. Pressure and vacuum gages, regulators and test gauges. Multimeters, clamp meters, insulation and ground-bond testers, process calibrators. Thermometers, thermocouples, infrared thermometers and humidity meters. Platform, bench and floor scales, which fall under Orange County Sealer sealing if used commercially. Levels, laser levels and distance meters. And for the handful of genuine precision shops, gage blocks, pin and thread gages and surface plates.

One piece of local context we would rather state than have corrected: the Laguna Hills Mall closed at the end of 2018 and was fully demolished in 2023. The "Five Lagunas" rebrand was abandoned years before that. The site is now the Village at Laguna Hills, a mixed-use redevelopment that is not open yet. If a page still describes Laguna Hills around an operating mall, it was not written this decade.

One accredited lab for everything on the list

A medical office building with pipettes upstairs, an autoclave down the hall, a sintering furnace in the dental lab next door and a bench scale in the receiving area usually ends up with three vendors and three renewal calendars. All nine of our disciplines run in house — dimensional, electrical and RF, temperature and humidity, pressure, mass, pipettes, force and torque, gas flow and vibration — so the whole population moves on one free Monday or Wednesday pickup and comes back on one account with one set of paperwork.

For the items that genuinely should not travel — autoclaves, chambers, installed monitoring systems, large balances — on-site calibration is straightforward to schedule, and we run thermal validation and uniformity surveys on site as well. When something fails in a way that stops work, expedited turnaround at 24, 48 and 72 hours is available. For everything else, intervals are worth planning deliberately rather than reactively; our guidance on how often instruments should be calibrated covers how to set them defensibly.

American Gage has calibrated from inside Orange County since 1968, under current ownership since 1998, from an 8,000 sq ft facility that has performed more than a million calibrations. Every certificate documents as-found and as-left values, measurement uncertainty and NIST traceability under ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation from A2LA, certificate 4296.01 — which is the accreditation a CLIA surveyor or a Joint Commission reviewer is looking for behind your equipment records. Standard turnaround is 7–10 business days.

Laguna Hills calibration FAQs

How far is your lab from Laguna Hills?

About 28 miles — roughly 30 to 45 minutes to 1131 S Richfield Rd in Placentia via the I-5 and SR-55, or the 241 toll road. Laguna Hills is on our free Monday and Wednesday Orange County pickup route.

Do you calibrate pipettes and autoclaves on site?

Pipettes are normally calibrated in our accredited pipette laboratory, which gives better uncertainty than a benchtop check. Autoclaves, sterilizers, chambers and installed monitoring systems are calibrated on site, including thermocouple mapping and temperature uniformity surveys.

Will your certificates satisfy CLIA and Joint Commission reviewers?

They are written for that purpose. Each certificate states as-found and as-left values, measurement uncertainty and NIST traceability under ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation from A2LA, certificate 4296.01 — the documentation CLIA calibration-verification and Joint Commission EC.02.04.01 records are built on.

Can you handle a dental laboratory’s equipment?

Yes — autoclave and ultrasonic cleaner verification, handpiece torque and air-pressure gages, porcelain and sintering furnace thermocouples with uniformity surveys, digital calipers and micrometers, and curing-light radiometers.
