Calibration Services in Carlsbad
Carlsbad packs an unusual amount of precision manufacturing into a beach town — genomics and diagnostics along Faraday and El Camino Real, medical device and telecom on the Palomar Airport corridor, and a golf equipment industry that does more serious metrology than its reputation suggests. It also sits 60 miles south of us, past the end of our pickup routes.
Service model
Ship-in service, or on-site calibration by appointment
Inbound shipping
Outside our free pickup routes — inbound shipping or scheduled on-site
Turnaround

Being honest about the 60 miles
Our free routes run Orange County on Mondays and Wednesdays, Los Angeles County on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the Inland Empire on Fridays. Carlsbad is in San Diego County and none of those routes reach it. Plenty of calibration providers would let that stay vague until the invoice; we would rather put it in the first paragraph.
What we do offer is straightforward. Ship instruments to the lab in Placentia and they run through the same nine-discipline facility as everything else, with the same accredited certificates. Or schedule on-site calibration at your Carlsbad facility — a technician and standards come to you, nothing leaves your building, and no instrument spends a day in transit each way. For a site with a large controlled-equipment population, on-site frequently costs less all-in than shipping. Book about two weeks ahead.
Genomics and diagnostics run on pipettes and temperature
The Carlsbad life science corridor is dense with sequencing, reagent, and diagnostics operations, and their instrument populations look alike: hundreds of air-displacement pipettes, analytical balances, incubators and freezers with thermometers and loggers, centrifuges, and thermal cyclers.
We calibrate pipettes to ISO 8655 by gravimetric and photometric methods — 2 channels × 4 volumes standard, 3 channels × 10 volumes accredited. Balances run against ASTM and OIML Class 1 weights in a mass room held to ±0.5 °C and ±5 %RH. Temperature and humidity covers −196 to 1000 °C, spanning cryogenic storage through autoclave and oven verification, with reference SPRTs read by Fluke 1594A Super Thermometers to as low as ±0.007 °C.
Medical device, telecom, and the equipment industry
Carlsbad medical device manufacturers work under ISO 13485 and FDA 21 CFR 820, where measuring equipment used in production and inspection has to be identified, controlled, and traceable. The telecom and wireless side leans on electrical and RF calibration — signal generators, spectrum and network analyzers, power meters, and DMMs to 8.5 digits, run on automated Fluke MET/CAL procedures.
Precision sporting goods manufacturing, which Carlsbad has more of than almost anywhere, brings its own mix: force gauges and load cells from test rigs, hardness testers from material inspection, and tight dimensional gaging on machined components. All of it runs through the same lab.
Why companies ship past closer options
San Diego County has calibration providers. What it has fewer of is a single accredited laboratory that covers nine disciplines in-house, so one supplier can hold your whole recall schedule instead of three. Splitting work across labs is how due dates get missed — nobody owns the calendar.
American Gage has run since 1968, has performed more than a million calibrations, and holds ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation from A2LA under certificate 4296.01, with ANSI/NCSL Z540-1 and Z540.3 compliance. Certificates document as-found and as-left readings, measurement uncertainty, NIST traceability, and the decision rule with TUR. Standard turnaround is 7–10 business days, with 24, 48, and 72-hour expedited service available.

The Lab Behind the Routes
Where Carlsbad instruments actually get calibrated.

8,000 sq ft of discipline-specific, environmentally controlled laboratories in Placentia — accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 by A2LA, certificate #4296.01. Every instrument you ship is calibrated here and returned to you — never sub-contracted to another lab.

Carlsbad calibration FAQs
Is Carlsbad on a free pickup route?
No. Carlsbad is in San Diego County, outside our Orange County, Los Angeles County, and Inland Empire routes. We serve Carlsbad by inbound shipping or scheduled on-site calibration.
Would on-site calibration make sense for us?
Often yes, particularly for sites with a large instrument population or equipment that should not leave the building. Book roughly two weeks ahead; after-hours and weekend visits can be arranged.
Can you handle a few hundred pipettes?
Yes. Pipettes are a routine high-volume workload, calibrated to ISO 8655 gravimetrically and photometrically. Talk to us about staging them in batches so your bench is never fully without.
What accreditation do your certificates carry?
ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited by A2LA, certificate 4296.01, with ANSI/NCSL Z540-1 and Z540.3 compliance and NIST-traceable results. The current scope is on our [accreditations page](/accreditations).
