Seventy miles, and how service actually works

Our free pickup and delivery routes run Orange County on Mondays and Wednesdays, Los Angeles County on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the Inland Empire on Fridays. Encinitas is in San Diego County, about 70 miles south, and no route reaches it. We would rather state that up front than let it surface after the first quote.

Ship-in handles most of what Encinitas companies own — hand instruments, force gauges, pipettes, balances, and bench electronics all travel well. For a site with a larger instrument population or equipment that should not leave the building, on-site calibration is available by appointment, booked roughly two weeks ahead, with after-hours and weekend visits arrangeable around production.

We calibrate force by dead weight, covering force gauges, load cells, and test stands, and torque from 0.5 ozf·in to 1,000 lbf·ft for the fastened assemblies alongside them. Hardness testers come in from materials inspection, and we repair those in-house — a service fewer labs still offer. Dimensional work on the machined and molded components rounds it out, from calipers and micrometers through gage blocks.

Life science and diagnostics moving up the coast

The northward spread of San Diego life science has put research, diagnostics, and medical device operations in Encinitas, and their instrument populations look like life science everywhere: pipettes in volume, analytical balances, incubators and freezers with monitoring probes, centrifuges, and autoclaves.

We calibrate pipettes to ISO 8655 gravimetrically and photometrically, at 2 channels by 4 volumes standard or 3 channels by 10 volumes accredited. Greenhouses run more instrumentation than people expect

For companies at the design stage rather than in production, the timing question matters more than the interval question. Instruments used to generate design verification or substantiation data need traceability at the moment the data is taken, and that cannot be applied retroactively. A force rig calibrated today produces defensible data going forward; it does nothing for the test results already recorded on it last quarter.
