Calibration Services in Huntington Beach

Huntington Beach holds more than 650 industrial businesses and, as the city puts it, no single industry dominates. Aerospace engineering sits beside injection molding, a combined-cycle power station, an active oil field and a hospital — five instrument populations with almost nothing in common except that every one of them needs traceable calibration.

The Northwest Industrial Area still runs on aerospace

Boeing remains the city’s largest employer, and the engineering work on Bolsa Avenue did not leave when the campus shrank. Around it sits Safran Cabin — the former C&D Aerospace, then Zodiac, still building aircraft cabin interiors in Huntington Beach — plus a layer of AS9100D job shops like Huntington Beach Machining and Alexander’s Precision Machining running five-axis milling, turning and wire EDM for the same supply chain.

That work has a predictable instrument list and an unforgiving paper trail. Calipers, micrometers, bore gages, gage blocks, height gages, thread and pin gages, dial indicators and granite surface plates carry the dimensional load. Cabin assembly is torque-heavy, so torque wrenches and torque screwdrivers cycle through in volume. Under AS9100, each one needs stated uncertainty, documented NIST traceability, and an explicit decision rule — not a sticker and a date.

The Northwest Industrial Area covers roughly 760 acres between Bolsa, Edinger, Springdale and Bolsa Chica, with the Gothard corridor running south of Edinger. Our Monday and Wednesday Orange County route reaches all of it, and the drive back to Placentia is about 21 miles.

Molding instruments nobody calls instruments

Cambro Manufacturing is the city’s second-largest employer and holds more than a million square feet across Skylab Road, Slater Avenue, Clay Avenue and a 434,000 sq ft lease at Huntington Gateway — the business park built on land Boeing sold off. It is injection and rotational molding at scale, and molding plants tend to under-count what they own.

Barrel and nozzle thermocouples, mold and platen temperature, hydraulic pressure transducers, clamp tonnage, shot-weight balances, drying-oven temperature and dimensional checks on finished parts are all measurement devices producing data someone relies on. When a dimensional problem appears three weeks into a production run, the question is always whether the process drifted or the gage did — and only as-found data answers it.

Energy, oil and remediation instruments

The AES Huntington Beach Energy Project runs a 644 MW combined-cycle unit commissioned in 2020. Generating plants are among the most instrument-dense sites in any city: pressure and differential-pressure transmitters, RTDs and thermocouples, flow meters, CEMS analyzers, vibration transducers, torque tools for turbine fastening, and a full bench of electrical test equipment from multimeters to insulation testers and high-voltage sets.

California Resources Corporation still produces from the Huntington Beach field on the coast highway, which brings custody-transfer metering, tank gauging, relief-valve test benches and gas detection into scope. Inland, the Ascon remediation at Hamilton and Magnolia is building its engineered cap under SCAQMD Rule 1150 and 1166 — organic-vapor analyzers, perimeter air monitors, sound level meters and county-sealed truck scales, all of which have to be demonstrably accurate because the monitoring data is the compliance record.

One lab for a city with no dominant industry

A Huntington Beach company with aerospace parts, a molding line and a maintenance shop usually ends up with three calibration vendors and three renewal calendars. All nine of our disciplines run in-house — dimensional, electrical and RF, temperature and humidity, pressure, mass, pipettes, force and torque, gas flow and vibration — so the whole instrument population moves on one pickup and comes back on one account.

Huntington Beach Hospital adds the healthcare side: pipettes, centrifuges, autoclave temperature and pressure verification, sphygmomanometers, blood-bank and vaccine storage monitoring, and infusion-pump flow verification. Different regulator, same underlying requirement — measuring equipment with documented accuracy, traceability, and identified calibration status.

Twenty-one miles, and what that buys you

Distance decides what is practical. Expedited calibration at 24, 48 and 72 hours is genuinely that fast when nothing is lost to freight at either end, and on-site calibration is straightforward to schedule for equipment that should not travel — surface plates, chambers, production test stands — with about two weeks of lead time. For thermal processing we also run AMS 2750 oven and furnace surveys and Kaye validation for IQ/OQ/PQ.

American Gage has calibrated from inside Orange County since 1968, under current ownership since 1998, from an 8,000 sq ft facility that has performed more than a million calibrations. Every certificate documents as-found and as-left values, measurement uncertainty, NIST traceability and the ANSI/NCSL Z540.3 decision rule with TUR, under ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation from A2LA, certificate 4296.01. Standard turnaround is 7–10 business days.

Huntington Beach calibration FAQs

How far is your lab from Huntington Beach?

About 21 miles — roughly 30 to 40 minutes to 1131 S Richfield Rd in Placentia depending on traffic. Huntington Beach is on our free Monday and Wednesday Orange County pickup route, so most customers never make the drive.

Do you handle AS9100 supplier audits?

Our certificates are written for them. Each one states measurement uncertainty, NIST traceability, as-found and as-left values, and the ANSI/NCSL Z540.3 decision rule with TUR — the evidence an AS9100 auditor asks for under monitoring and measuring resource control.

Can you calibrate molding and process instrumentation?

Yes — thermocouples and RTDs, pressure transducers and gauges, platen and clamp force, scales and balances, flow meters, and the dimensional gages used to check the parts coming off the line.

What accreditation do your certificates carry?

ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited by A2LA, certificate 4296.01, with ANSI/NCSL Z540-1 and Z540.3 compliance and NIST traceability. The current scope is on our [accreditations page](/accreditations).
