Calibration Services in Inglewood

Inglewood is not a factory town, and we are not going to pretend it is one. It is a nine-square-mile city whose economy runs on services, health care, education and — increasingly — three major sports and entertainment venues, with a compact but genuinely real light-industrial and aviation-support district squeezed between the 405 and the eastern edge of LAX. That district contains an aerospace tooling manufacturer, a permitted treatment facility with its own analytical lab, two FDA-registered device makers and a biospecimen bank. All of them need calibration.

One freeway inside the line, and three that are not

Inglewood has exactly one freeway whose roadway sits inside its city limits: the I-405, the San Diego Freeway, which runs through the city with interchanges at Century Boulevard, Manchester Boulevard and La Cienega, and La Tijera Boulevard. The city holds land on both sides of it — downtown Inglewood to the east, the Aviation Boulevard and Isis Avenue industrial pocket to the west. That is the complete list, and it is the corridor our Tuesday and Thursday route uses.

The 105 is the one everybody assigns to this city. The Century Freeway runs immediately south of Inglewood, through Hawthorne, Lennox and Del Aire, with its nearest interchanges at Prairie Avenue and Hawthorne Boulevard and at Crenshaw Boulevard. It skirts the city rather than entering it, and the Metro C Line in its median is likewise not in Inglewood. Then there is Manchester Boulevard, which is sometimes still called State Route 42 — but SR-42 was deleted from the state highway system in 2000 and relinquished to local jurisdictions that year. A few legacy shields survive in the field and some mapping data still tags Manchester as the old route, which is exactly how an error gets published. Manchester Boulevard is a City of Inglewood arterial.

Hawthorne Boulevard is not SR-107 here either. The state route is 4.8 miles of Hawthorne Boulevard from Pacific Coast Highway in Torrance north to the Redondo Beach line, about four miles south of Inglewood. The SR-90 Marina Freeway stops in Culver City, the SR-1 runs west of the city, and the I-110 is roughly four miles east. One more point of precision that matters here: LAX is owned and operated by the City of Los Angeles and its terminals sit inside the City of Los Angeles, in Westchester. Inglewood is immediately east of the airport, about four miles from downtown Inglewood to the terminals, and the Aviation Boulevard pocket is closer still — but the airport is not in Inglewood, and we will not write that it is. The real industrial streets are Aviation Boulevard in the 8600 to 9100 blocks, Hindry Avenue, Isis Avenue, Railroad Place and North Oak Street in North Inglewood along the old Santa Fe right-of-way the Metro K Line now uses, and South La Cienega Boulevard.

Zephyr on Hindry Avenue, and a Part 147 school on Aviation

Zephyr Tool Group at 201 Hindry Ave has manufactured aerospace hole-preparation and hole-fastening tooling in Inglewood since 1939 — drilling accessories and hole prep under the Zephyr Aerospace line, fastener installation and removal tools under Lok-Fast, temporary aerospace fasteners under Kwik-Lok, and industrial driver bits and power-tool accessories. Its federal contractor registration carries cutting-tool and machine-tool accessory, machine tool and power-driven hand tool manufacturing classifications. We did not find a published AS9100 certificate for them, so we describe the work as aerospace tooling manufactured against AS9100 flowdown requirements rather than asserting a certification.

A cutting-tool and fastener-tooling shop is the best dimensional and torque account in the city. Outside, inside, blade and depth micrometers, calipers, gage block sets, pin and plug gages, thread ring and plug gages for shank and fastener threads, height gages, bore gages, dial and test indicators, granite surface plates, optical comparators and overlay charts, radius and countersink angle gages. Then torque wrenches and torque screwdrivers, torque transducers and analyzers, and tensile and pull-test frames with load cells for fastener pull-off and tool-grip verification — because when the product is the tool that sets the torque, the test fixture itself has to be traceable.

Up the street at 8911 Aviation Blvd, Spartan College of Aeronautics & Technology runs an FAA Part 147 Aviation Maintenance Technician school under Air Agency Certificate NR0T084K, on day and evening shifts. A Part 147 program is audited on its equipment, which makes it an unusually reliable recurring calibration customer: torque wrenches in volume across the airframe and powerplant labs, cable tensiometers, micrometers and calipers with telescoping and small-hole gages, dial bore gages, feeler and thread gages, propeller and rigging protractors, hydraulic and pneumatic test gauges, oxygen regulators, pitot-static and air data test sets, multimeters, oscilloscopes, megohmmeters and bonding resistance meters in the avionics labs, thermocouples and exhaust and cylinder-head temperature indicators, and aircraft weighing scales and load cells for weight-and-balance instruction.

A permitted treatment lab, a biospecimen bank and two device makers

Clean Earth at 425 Isis Ave is a permitted hazardous-waste treatment, storage and disposal facility under EPA identification number CAD008364432, with on-site laboratory analysis, lab packing, pour-offs, sampling and bulk and drum treatment. Note the name: the site was Rho-Chem for decades and later Stericycle Environmental Solutions, and Clean Earth is now part of Veolia — records using the old names are stale. A permitted facility with its own analytical lab is the most calibration-dependent single site in Inglewood: pipettes for waste characterization, analytical and top-loading balances with ASTM class test weights and drum and platform scales for manifested shipments, sample-storage refrigerator, freezer and oven monitoring with data loggers, process and tank-farm pressure gauges and transmitters, air-sampling pump flow calibration, rotameters and mass flow controllers, loop calibrators, and torque wrenches for drum, flange and bolted-closure assembly plus proof-load testing on lifts and hoists.

ProteoGenex at 460 Hindry Ave, Unit A supplies human biospecimens — fresh-frozen and FFPE tissue, blood and blood fractions, biofluids, extracted nucleic acids and tissue microarrays. A biorepository lives and dies on temperature: ultra-low and conventional freezers, liquid-nitrogen vapour-phase storage, refrigerators, incubators and cryo-shippers, with continuous monitoring probes, data loggers, controlled-rate freezers and full thermal mapping of every storage unit. Add a heavy pipette population across extraction and aliquoting, analytical balances for reagent prep and tissue weights, cylinder regulators and gauges, incubator gas flow and biosafety cabinet airflow verification. They publish no clinical-lab certification, so we claim none for them.

The city also has two FDA-registered medical device manufacturers, which is more than most cities its size. Clear Club at 8915 S La Cienega Blvd, Unit A thermoforms an over-the-counter nightguard — a dimensional story first, with digital calipers and sheet thickness gages, then thermoformer platen and oven thermocouples with uniformity verification, vacuum and positive-pressure forming gauges, material dosing balances and seal-strength and compression testing on the packaging. Kelvi, operating as Hypothermia Devices, Inc. at 413 N Oak St, builds Class II water-circulating hot and cold therapy systems, where the delivered temperature is the regulated performance claim: reference thermometers, thermocouples and RTDs, thermal and environmental chambers, ice-point and bath references, circuit pressure transducers and leak-test rigs, loop flow meters, and on the electrical side multimeters, oscilloscopes, programmable supplies, hipot, ground-bond and electrical-safety analyzers for medical electrical equipment testing. Both carry equipment calibration obligations under the FDA quality system regulation, harmonized with ISO 13485 as of February 2026.

Centinela, the batch plants on Railroad Place, and three venues

Centinela Hospital Medical Center at 555 E Hardy St is the city's acute-care hospital — 369 beds, operated by Prime Healthcare, with a clinical laboratory, cardiac catheterization labs including a hybrid lab, a 52-bed emergency department, and nuclear medicine and computed tomography imaging. It is also, now, the city's only hospital: Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital closed in 2007 and its campus at Grace Avenue and North Prairie is the Grace Park residential community, with the estate's century-old Moreton Bay fig preserved on site. Getting that right is a small detail that signals somebody actually knows the city.

A hospital of that size carries a full biomedical and clinical-lab load: pipettes in chemistry, hematology and blood bank under clinical laboratory improvement requirements; pharmacy and compounding balances with class test weights plus patient, chair and infant scales; blood-bank refrigerators, plasma freezers, vaccine and medication refrigerators, water baths, warming cabinets and autoclave thermocouples with thermal mapping and data loggers; sphygmomanometers, medical gas regulators, manifolds and suction regulators, invasive pressure transducers in the cath labs, and room differential pressure in operating rooms, isolation and the pharmacy cleanroom; ventilator and anesthesia flow analyzers and oxygen flowmeters; and electrical-safety, defibrillator and electrosurgical analyzers with patient simulators.

North Inglewood has the heavy-materials pocket. CEMEX Ready Mix batches concrete at 505 Railroad Pl and Blue Diamond Materials runs an asphalt plant at 441 Railroad Pl, both on the city's approved batch plant roster. Batch plants are a weights-and-measures story before anything else — truck scales, aggregate, cement and water batchers and load cells, and certified test weights, all legal-for-trade devices registered and sealed by the county. Add concrete cylinder compression machines and asphalt load frames whose force output has to be verified, mix and curing-room temperature and humidity monitoring, sieve and slump verification, air-entrainment meters, baghouse differential pressure and stack flow for air-district permit compliance, and accelerometers on vibratory screens and mixers. South of there, the venue cluster — SoFi Stadium at 1001 S Stadium Dr, the Intuit Dome at 3930 W Century Blvd with its 25,000 square foot sports medicine clinic, and the Kia Forum at 3900 W Manchester Blvd — is exactly that, a venue cluster and not a plant. The calibration load there is facilities, food safety, rigging and medical: walk-in cooler and hot-hold thermometers and food-safety data loggers, concession and receiving scales, rigging load cells and shackle and hoist proof-load testing, torque wrenches for truss and seating-system maintenance, chiller, boiler and fire-pump gauges, and accelerometers on large air handlers, chillers and escalators.

What we will not claim about Inglewood

The Aviation Boulevard corridor has genuinely de-industrialized over fifteen years, and the public records have not caught up. Within a few blocks of each other: TTM's printed-circuit plant at 8636 Aviation Blvd and 339 S Isis Ave closed around 2009 with the work moved to Santa Ana, Utah and Wisconsin; Bodycote's heat-treat plant at 9007 Aviation Blvd became a leased industrial park, which means Inglewood no longer has a verifiable commercial heat-treat house; and the old china plant on Aviation appears gone. Environmental databases still list several of these as current facilities. Anyone who publishes Inglewood as a circuit-board town is reading a fifteen-year-old file.

We also will not claim an FAA Part 145 repair station in Inglewood. The verified aviation certificate in this city is Part 147 — the maintenance school on Aviation Boulevard. The general-aviation repair work people associate with Inglewood is at Hawthorne Municipal Airport, which is in Hawthorne, and the aerospace manufacturing heart of this area is in Hawthorne and the El Segundo corridor, next door rather than inside the line. Nadcap special-process work has no real local basis here now that the heat-treat plant is gone, and no automotive tier supplier was found — Inglewood has a great many auto dealers and collision shops, which are not in that scope. One last currency note: the Inglewood Transit Connector people mover collapsed in 2024 and the city pivoted to bus lanes and mobility hubs in April 2025, so a page promising an automated people mover is already wrong.

What the city actually offers is honest and useful: a real aviation-support apron, two device manufacturers, a permitted lab, a biorepository, a 369-bed hospital, two batch plants and a decade of continuous venue work ahead of it. The lab is about 36 miles away, 45 to 55 minutes off-peak via the 91, the 5 and the 105 to the 405 — and we will say plainly that the 105 and 405 approach to the airport is among the most congested in the region, so peak-period times run materially longer. That is exactly why Inglewood is on a free pickup and delivery route every Tuesday and Thursday: your instruments ride with our drivers, not a courier, and nobody on your staff spends two hours in that traffic. Expedited turnaround at 24, 48 and 72 hours is available and on-site calibration covers what should not be moved. All nine disciplines run under one roof — dimensional, electrical and RF, temperature and humidity, pressure, mass, pipettes, force and torque, gas flow and vibration. American Gage has calibrated from inside Orange County since 1968, under current ownership since 1998, with more than a million calibrations performed, holding ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation from A2LA under certificate 4296.01. Standard turnaround is 7–10 business days.

Inglewood calibration FAQs

How far is your lab from Inglewood?

About 36 miles — roughly 45 to 55 minutes off-peak to 1131 S Richfield Rd in Placentia, via SR-91 west, the I-5 north and the I-105 west to the I-405. Peak-period times are materially longer on that approach, which is why Inglewood sits on our free Tuesday and Thursday Los Angeles County pickup route.

Is LAX in Inglewood?

No. Los Angeles International Airport is owned and operated by the City of Los Angeles and its terminals are inside Los Angeles, in Westchester. Inglewood sits immediately east of the airport — about four miles from downtown Inglewood, and closer from the Aviation Boulevard industrial corridor — which is why the city has so much aviation-support and air-cargo activity without having an airport of its own.

Do you calibrate instruments for FDA-registered device manufacturers?

Yes. Reference thermometers, thermocouples and RTDs, environmental and thermal chambers, pressure transducers, flow meters, balances and test weights, calipers and thickness gages, torque screwdrivers, load cells and seal-strength testers — with certificates written for equipment calibration requirements under the FDA quality system regulation and ISO 13485.

Can you calibrate our truck and batch-plant scales?

We calibrate scales, load cells and test weights and issue accredited certificates with uncertainty and traceability. Note that devices used commercially in trade are separately registered, tested and sealed by the Los Angeles County Weights and Measures Bureau — the two are complementary, not interchangeable.
