Calibration Services in Pico Rivera
Pico Rivera sits about 22 miles from our lab — half an hour up the 91 to either the 5 or the 605. It is also a city with a specific and unusual industrial story: a secure aerospace plant that employed twelve thousand people and was demolished in 2001, and underneath it a durable base of food processors, packaging converters and specialty manufacturers on smaller parcels. We will write about the second one, because it is the one that still owns instruments.

The 605 on the east side, the 5 just to the south
The I-605, the San Gabriel River Freeway, runs along Pico Rivera's eastern edge — the City's own general plan puts it east of the city — with the Beverly Boulevard interchange sitting on the Whittier–Pico Rivera line and the Washington Boulevard, Slauson Avenue and Telegraph Road interchanges just outside the limits in West Whittier-Los Nietos and Santa Fe Springs. So the honest version is that the 605 runs along the city's edge with interchanges at Beverly, Whittier, Washington, Slauson and Telegraph, not that it runs through the middle of town.
The I-5 does not pass through Pico Rivera either. The City's general plan says the Santa Ana Freeway runs south of the city, and the I-5 route sequence goes Buena Park, La Mirada, Santa Fe Springs, Norwalk, Downey, Commerce, East Los Angeles — Pico Rivera is not on it. What is true, and more useful, is that the Paramount Boulevard and Slauson Avenue exits are signed for Pico Rivera. The SR-60 lies less than two miles north, which is a fine proximity statement and a wrong corridor claim.
Two street names deserve care. Whittier Boulevard is not State Route 72 here: the Streets and Highways Code itself states that the relinquished former portions of Route 72 within Pico Rivera are not state highways and cannot be re-adopted. Rosemead Boulevard is not State Route 19 here either — the statute says the same thing about the former Route 19 portions in Pico Rivera, and the remaining legal route is a short stub up in Bellflower and Downey. Shields still stand on Rosemead and mapping data still carries the old designations, which is precisely the trap. Call them Whittier Boulevard and Rosemead Boulevard. The city's real industrial frontage is on Washington Boulevard, Telegraph Road, Slauson Avenue, Paramount Boulevard, Gregg Road, San Gabriel River Parkway and Whittier Boulevard, with the largest concentration in the southwest quadrant along Paramount, Slauson and Telegraph, and the named industrial centers being Pacific Gateway Business Park and the Pico Rivera Commerce Center.
Two federally inspected food plants and a bakery ingredient manufacturer
Pico Rivera has two active USDA-inspected establishments, which is a rare thing to be able to verify and a strong basis for calibration work. Charlie DiMaria & Son at 9531 Beverly Road runs meat slaughter and processing under establishment number M934. D & L Poultry Enterprises at 9469 E Telegraph Rd runs poultry processing under establishment number P47671. Both appear in the federal meat, poultry and egg product inspection directory with recent active inspection checks. BakeMark USA manufactures bakery mixes and ingredients from Pico Rivera as well, under food safety preventive controls rather than federal meat inspection.
In a federally inspected plant, temperature is not one discipline among several — it is the discipline. Calibrated dial and digital thermometers, thermocouples and RTDs at hazard-analysis critical control points, cooler, chiller and freezer monitoring, and cook and chill data loggers, with the calibration records themselves treated as inspection items under federal sanitation and hazard-analysis requirements. Then mass: monorail, platform, bench and floor scales with certified test weights — and because product is sold by weight, those are commercially used weighing devices requiring state device registration and county sealing, which is a separate obligation from accredited calibration and complements it rather than replacing it.
The rest follows the plant. Steam and hot-water boiler pressure gauges, sanitation wash pressure and, critically, ammonia refrigeration system gauges and relief-device verification — ammonia systems carry their own process safety management obligations under state regulation, and boilers and fired pressure vessels carry permit requirements with them. Antimicrobial intervention dosing on the poultry side means flow meters and rotameters. A plant with its own quality lab adds pipettes for moisture, pH, titration and micro plating. BakeMark's mix manufacturing adds checkweighers for batch and fill accuracy, mixer and dryer thermocouples, pneumatic conveying pressure, compressed-air and nitrogen flow, and sieve and screen verification on the dimensional side.
Krieger on Gregg Road builds doors that have to be tested
Krieger Specialty Products at 4880 Gregg Rd has been making custom special-purpose doors and windows since 1936 and is now an Allegion brand: acoustical and secure-facility doors, bullet- and forced-entry-resistant assemblies, blast and pressure-rated doors, radio-frequency shielded doors, and storm and hurricane units. Their own site states that forced-entry and ballistic products are tested to the United States Department of State standard for forced entry and ballistic resistance of structural systems. That is an unusually specific, verifiable test regime for a building-products manufacturer, and test regimes are what drive calibration schedules.
Every door is custom-sized, so dimensional control is the whole job: calipers, micrometers, height gages, steel rules and tapes, machinist squares, surface plates, gage blocks and thread and pin gages. Torque wrenches for hinge, latch and hardware fastening. Load cells, pull testers and tensile frames for forced-entry and hardware pull-off testing. Blast- and pressure-rated qualification rigs need pressure gauges, transducers and transmitters you can defend, plus shop compressed-air regulation.
The radio-frequency shielded and secure-facility product line is where this account gets interesting for our electrical and RF bench. Shielding effectiveness is a measured quantity: signal generators, spectrum and network analyzers and the attenuation measurement chain all have to be traceable, along with multimeters and megohmmeters for continuity and bonding checks. Add paint and adhesive cure oven thermocouples with data loggers, bench balances, and floor scales for weighing finished doors for shipment, and a single manufacturer on Gregg Road touches six of our nine disciplines.
Packaging, lighting and the job-shop layer
Bay Cities has made corrugated packaging and in-store retail displays from Pico Rivera since the 1960s, with pack-out and fulfillment alongside the manufacturing. Corrugated is one of the few industries where force is the signature discipline rather than an afterthought: box compression testers, edge crush and flat crush testers, burst testers, tensile frames and load cells, all of which need periodic verification against traceable standards. Then board caliper and thickness gages, micrometers and calipers, squares and platen flatness checks.
There is one detail about corrugated testing that a packaging engineer will recognize immediately: industry test methods require a conditioned atmosphere at a specified temperature and relative humidity, and results obtained outside it are not valid. That makes chambers, hygrometers, thermohygrometers and data loggers a compliance requirement, not a nicety — and it is exactly the kind of work our temperature and humidity laboratory was built for. Add basis-weight balances with test weights, floor scales for roll stock and pallets, compressed-air pressure for presses, die-cutters and gluers, and accelerometers on corrugator and press drives where a predictive-maintenance program exists.
Feit Electric is headquartered at 4901 Gregg Rd, a few doors from Krieger, in lighting and smart-lighting engineering and quality assurance — we describe it that way rather than asserting a production line we did not verify. Lighting engineering and QA work runs on multimeters, power supplies and electronic loads, oscilloscopes, megohmmeters and dielectric-withstand testers, and power analyzers for wattage and power-factor claims, plus life-test and accelerated-aging ovens and environmental chambers with thermocouples and data loggers for lumen-maintenance testing. Below these names sits the layer the City describes in its own general plan: industrial spaces with smaller floorplates suited to local and regional companies — a job-shop and mid-size-plant city rather than a megaplant city, with metal shops, platers and fabricators that we will describe as a category rather than invent names for.
The B-2 plant is gone, and twenty-two miles is the point
Here is the thing a Pico Rivera plant manager will check first. The 157-acre site at Rosemead and Washington was the Ford Los Angeles Assembly plant from 1958 to 1980. Northrop acquired it in the early 1980s for its Advanced Systems Division and built the secure, windowless plant where the B-2 Spirit was produced, with twelve to thirteen thousand people working on the programme here and in Palmdale. It closed in the late 1990s and was demolished in 2001, and the City's own general plan names Northrop Grumman's B-2 Division as its former largest employer and attributes two decades of employment decline to the closure. The site today is the Pico Rivera Towne Center plus industrial, research and development, office and retail uses. The aircraft's successor is built in Palmdale.
So this page does not claim an aerospace plant, and it does not claim Nadcap or AS9100 work with a Pico Rivera address, because we found none to verify. We found no medical device or automotive tier manufacturer here either, and no plating or finishing concentration, so those regimes stay off the page. What we did find is a genuine food, packaging and specialty-manufacturing base, a BNSF main line through town carrying roughly a hundred freight trains a day plus passenger service, and a city in an active study for its own commuter rail station. Rose Hills Memorial Park, for the record, is in Whittier, not here.
Twenty-two miles is a short drive — about 30 to 35 minutes, a straight shot up the 91 to either the 5 or the 605 — and Pico Rivera is on our free Tuesday and Thursday Los Angeles County pickup route. At that distance expedited turnaround at 24, 48 and 72 hours is comfortable rather than heroic, and on-site calibration works for anything that cannot leave a production line. All nine disciplines run under one roof — dimensional, electrical and RF, temperature and humidity, pressure, mass, pipettes, force and torque, gas flow and vibration — so a plant with HACCP thermometers, platform scales, boiler gauges and a QA lab moves its whole instrument population on one pickup and one account. American Gage has calibrated from inside Orange County since 1968, under current ownership since 1998, with over a million calibrations performed in an 8,000 sq ft facility. Every certificate carries as-found and as-left data, measurement uncertainty, NIST traceability and the ANSI/NCSL Z540.3 decision rule with TUR, under ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation from A2LA, certificate 4296.01. Standard turnaround is 7–10 business days.

Pico Rivera calibration FAQs
How far is your lab from Pico Rivera?
About 22 miles — roughly 30 to 35 minutes to 1131 S Richfield Rd in Placentia, up SR-91 west to either the I-5 or the I-605 north. Pico Rivera is one of the closest cities on our free Tuesday and Thursday Los Angeles County pickup route.
Do you calibrate thermometers and probes for USDA-inspected food plants?
Yes. Dial and digital thermometers, thermocouples, RTDs, cooler, chiller and freezer monitoring probes, cook and chill data loggers, and oven and chamber temperature mapping — with accredited certificates showing as-found and as-left values, uncertainty and NIST traceability, which is what an inspector asks to see.
Can you calibrate scales used to sell product by weight?
We calibrate scales and balances and issue accredited certificates with uncertainty and traceability. Devices used commercially in trade are separately registered, tested and sealed under the California Division of Measurement Standards programme and enforced locally by Los Angeles County Weights and Measures — the two requirements are complementary, not interchangeable.
Do you handle packaging and physical test equipment?
Yes. Box compression, edge crush, flat crush and burst testers, tensile frames and load cells, seal-strength and peel testers, board caliper and thickness gages, and the conditioned-atmosphere chambers, hygrometers and data loggers that packaging test methods require for results to be valid.
